So I read Rann/Thanagar War infinite Crisis Special and the first issue of Thunderbolt Jaxon today, both written by favorite-creator-since-childhood Dave Gibbons. Neither were drawn by him (he was an artist long before he became a professional writer), and neither featured characters created by him. And Thunderbolt Jaxon, reviving/revamping an old 1950s British comics hero, is so much better than the unfortunately-titled mess that is Rann/Thanagar War that I am now completely comfortable laying the blame for that series completely at the feet of DC's connect-the-continuity-dots editorial policy, and absolve Dave Gibbons of all blame.
