Yahoo! News - Schiavo Parents Beg Florida Governor to Intervene
: "The FBI (news - web sites) arrested a North Carolina man for sending an e-mail offering a bounty of $250,000 dollars to anyone who would kill Michael Schiavo and $50,000 for killing a judge who has ruled in favor of the husband in the case.

The man, Richard Alan Meywes of Fairview, North Carolina, was charged with solicitation of murder and sending threatening communications and could face up to 15 years in prison, said the U.S. Attorney's office in Tampa, Florida."

And I suppose he's making a statement about Terri Schiavo's right to life?

Yahoo! News - Easter Bunny Gets Pummeled by Boy at Mall
: "BAY CITY, Mich. - The Easter Bunny is hopping mad. Bryan Johnson, who portrays the furry character at the Bay City Mall, says he was pummeled in an unprovoked attack on the job. Police say the attacker was a 12-year-old boy who sat on Johnson's lap the day before the March 18 incident."

Growing ever more frustrated and depressed by the ongoing attempts to subvert the American judicial system through the Terri Schiavo case, I found this story to be fairly refreshing.
A fairly cogent summary/overview of the Terri Schiavo case can be downloaded and read here, if you have Adobe Acrobat Reader. For me, this is a really frustrating situation, watching the government and president get very publically involved in a situation that the courts have already decided time and time and time again, just because they don't like the results. As I've said before, it's embarrassing, shameful political grandstanding at the expense of the dignity of this woman and her family, and that's pathetic. (The president will fly back to Washington from one of his many vacations to get involved in this, but not for any other issues? What an @$$.) Fortunately, the country in general, Red and Blue states alike, if you subscribe to that sort of thing, seem to be seeing through that crap for what it is. But just when I start to calm down, I read something like this:

Yahoo! News - Schiavo's Health Wanes As Parents Appeal
: "A perimeter around the federal courthouse was evacuated during the hearing after a suspicious backpack was found outside. The hearing was not interrupted, and the package was safely detonated using a remote device."

Because, of course, nothing says Right to Life like planning to blow people up.

Sci Fi Wire -- The News Service of the Sci Fi Channel: Davis Conjures Zatanna

Goodness, I've been a fan of Zatanna forever. (Once again, for everyone who made me listen to how excited you were about the Lord of the Rings trilogy... Stuff like this is payback, because these stories are my Lord of the Rings.)

Yahoo! News - NBC's 'Third Watch' Ends Shift

It's not like it was NYPD Blue, but I did watch this one faithfully (no pun intended). I do think it was reaching the end of its run, and wasn't really expecting it to come back next year. But it's still a shame.

Still no news about American Dreams...

Yahoo! News - U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Schiavo Case

In any reasonable world, this would be over now. (In fact, it should have been over long before now, but not for some shameful political grandstanding which shows total disregard for the people involved.) But apparently, governor Jeb Bush (again, lower case title is deliberate when it comes to the Bush family) still won't stop trying to interfere.

Expect to hear me bitch about this more this weekend, probably.

news: "The Mighty Boosh is to be shown in the U.S.A. BBC America has bought the Boosh and will be showing it soon, sandwiched between reruns of Benny Hill and The Office. Dates and times to follow."

Oh, thank God.
